State Road Animal Hospital was started in the early 1960's by Dr. Dick Allen. Dr. Bill Smith began working at the practice in 1968 and took the practice over in the early 1980's. The animal hospital at that time was a mixed animal practice, with doctors treating both large and small animals. Toward the early 1990's, the practice's focus began to become more small animal medicine and surgery. Dr. Thomas Armstrong purchased the practice from Dr. Smith in 1993, at which time it became a hospital that exclusively provides small animal medicine and surgery.

May changes have happened over the past ten years to bring the animal hospital to the level it is today. In 2000,the hospital became computerized and five years later, we began the process of becoming a technologically integrated hospital. In 2002, a major renovation was done on the building. The barn was totally converted into small animal surgery, radiology and treatment areas, as well as hospital wards for dogs and cats and an isolation area. An new addition was also built to accommodate exam rooms, waiting room, front desk, and the lab/pharmacy areas. This renovation allowed State Road Animal Hospital to provide much more comprehensive in-house diagnostic and treatment capabilities. As a result, we are able to preform most blood-work on-site, we have greatly improved our radiographic capabilities, we have a comprehensive pharmacy, and we provide a wider array of surgical and dental services.

In 2009, we hired Dr. Laura Weber as associate veterinarian. By having two veterinarians, we have been able to upgrade our services even more. Our dermatology, internal medicine, and feline medicine ares have been greatly expanded since Dr. Weber's arrival. We have added ultrasound and therapeutic laser therapy to our services. We have started a house-call service to serve the needs of those who have difficulty getting to the hospital..

All of these changes and improvements have been with one purpose in mind-to provide the highest quality and most comprehensive service possible for our clients, our patients, and our community. That is our mission, and our ongoing goal is to continue seeking ways to better serve those in our midst.
