Here at State Road Animal Hospital, we take great pride in the quality of preventive and medical care we provide to your pets. Not only do we have 3 Doctors at State Road, but we are also staffed with 4 licensed Veterinary Technicians as well as 1 certified Veterinary Assistant. But wait there’s more! Beyond the vast amount of certified and licensed medical professionals, we also have several highly trained non certified team members with over 30+ collective years of providing health care in our industry! Our team from reception to treatment is well equipped with some of the best individuals who carry immeasurable passion for the patients we are so grateful to serve. We are honored to help you, help your pet’s live the happiest and healthiest life possible, all the while, treating them as if they were our own.

Dr. Amanda Hitchcock graduated from Ross University of Veterinary Medicine. She brings such a unique and passionate drive to the hospital, as she fit right in when completing an externship with us previously. Dr. Hitchcock is originally from ALASKA! Yes, that’s right, all the way from Alaska, to Ohio, to here in Alma, Michigan. She is so excited to become an active part in our community, and to further explore her passion for growth as she meets and builds meaningful relationships with our patients and their owners. She most enjoys the diversity of Veterinary Medicine, and that no two days are ever the same! Dr. Hitchcock shares her home with her two dogs, Annie, and Moose, her two cats, Soy Sauce and Daphne, and last but certainly not least, her husband Paul!
Abigail Scharboneau

Dr. Abigail Scharboneau graduated from Michigan State University! She grew up in Dundee, Michigan and both she and her husband attended Alma College! She is looking forward to being back in the community and planting her roots as she begins to care for the patients within the community. Dr. Scharboneau enjoys being able to create strong and effective bonds with both people and their pets to help owners provide their pet with a happy, and healthy life! She and her husband have one cat named Artemis, and a dog named Apollo who are truly the world’s best entertainment, though Artemis is sure, he is simply the ruler of all things and the star of the show. We are elated to have her on our team!

Dr. Jessie Petersen graduated from vet school from Michigan State University. She is originally from the Chicago area but became familiar and fell in love with the central Michigan area when completing a Masters in Neuroscience at Central Michigan University in 2016. She is so excited to be back in the area and get involved with the community. Dr. Petersen’s interests include wound care, nutrition, surgery, spay/neuter initiatives and awareness, and feline medicine.

Kris has been a dedicated asset to State Road Animal Hospital for the past 15 years! While she has an array of talents, our favorite is certainly being the glue that holds the everyday chaos together. She is always working on something in the background to ensure that all is running smoothly. When Kris is not at work, she enjoys caring for our clinic cats, as they “vacation” with her every weekend. Her favorite place to be when she is not at the hospital, is Mackinaw Island, enjoying the beautiful scenery. She enjoys life theater movies, and all things George Clooney.

Chelsea has been one of State Road Animal Hospital’s dedicated CSRs since 2018 and as of 2023 was officially promoted to Practice Manager! She has a real passion for continued growth and is always looking for opportunities to further dedicate herself to the clinic, as well as the community that we serve. Chelsea is a multi-skilled asset to the team at State Road, and her experience and expertise are always highly appreciated. When she isn’t dedicating her time to the clinic, she enjoys weekly camping trips during the summertime, though outdoor activities in general are her go to relaxation activity!

Brandi graduated from Michigan State University, GO GREEN! Upon passing her board examinations, she joined the State Road Animal Hospital team as a Licensed Veterinary Technician! While she adores each patient she encounters, she has a soft spot for the English Bull Dogs we see! If one is in the building, you know where she is. She is our social butterfly here at State Road, and we appreciate her daily hard work and dedication to our medical team! When not at work, she enjoys camping, kayaking, and various other outdoor activities with her husband. In addition to her pets, she also enjoys being a plant mom!

Katie graduated from Michigan State University and has since found a love for patient nutrition! She has even obtained her certification as a certified nutrition counselor to better advocate for her patients! Katie enjoys providing supportive nursing care to her patients, as well as helping to educate owners on proper nutrition and pet care to help increase the years and moments spent with their fur babies. She has two cats, Goose and Puck, as well as one dog named JJ! Aside from her pets, she shares her home and free time with her husband and their two sons.

Kylee is one of our talented Licensed Veterinary Technicians! She has been an immeasurable addition to our team and always brings a bit of spunk to our day. Kylee’s passion for Veterinary Medicine began at an early age, and to this day she enjoys helping patients live long and healthy lives. Nursing care is one of her favorite parts of the job. When Kylee isn’t at work, she loves spending time with her beloved dogs, as well as family. If she isn’t at work, you can find her painting or in the kitchen baking something delicious!

Jessica graduated from Baker College in 2016 and after passing her board examinations, became a licensed Veterinary technician. She enjoys client education and critical patient care! Another passion of hers is training, she thoroughly enjoys helping new team members gain and learn various skills as they grow in their positions! When off the clock she enjoys spending time with her husband and their two girls, and their various pets! They have 2 dogs, 5 cats, and chickens!

Rachael is State Road Animal Hospital’s certified Veterinary assistant! She has been with State Road a total of roughly 1.5 years, providing outstanding patient care. On a day-to-day basis, she keeps our busy schedule moving along by assisting both our DVMs and our Veterinary technicians! She has and continues to be a great asset to our medical team. When Rachael is not at the clinic, she is an avid member of her church, and is always involved in something extracurricular. She also enjoys spending quality time with her pets at home when she is away from the busy activity here at State Road.

Hayley comes to us from California! She has a love for Veterinary Medicine, and it shows when she is here at State Road. She is currently attending classes at CMU, and visits her twin sister back home. She loves outdoor activities, and spending her time enjoying moments and experiences. Lexi joined State Road Animal Hospital in February of 2021, shortly after she and her husband relocated to the area from Texas! Her dedication and passion are truly reflected within her work, and she is undoubtedly a skillful asset to State Road’s medical team! She is always in search of the next opportunity to learn from something within the hospital, and that is just one thing we love about her. Lexi enjoys relaxing days at the beach and has a passion for traveling, mostly anywhere with water. There is nothing she loves more than spending her free time enjoying the company of her husband their son Aiden!

Emma is a pre-veterinary student who joined us in January of 2022! She is currently attending CMU and will be applying to Vet schools later this year. She brings a peaceful aura to the team, and has such an easy going and can do attitude. She is great at making patients feel comfortable, and we cannot wait to see where her journey in Veterinary Medicine takes her! She is such a great addition to our team!

Sam is one of our Certified Veterinary Assistants here at State Road Animal Hospital! When at work, it can be difficult to find Sam! She is always busy and on the go. She treats each patient as if they are her own pet, and has a heart of gold. Our team is grateful for the calming aura she brings the team each day. Her favorite part about the job is that no two days are the same, seeing and guiding patients through difficult emergencies is always a rewarding experience. When Sam isn’t at work, you can find her camping with her husband and their fur children! She loves enjoying the great outdoors and the company of her pets.

Katie is one of the many faces you will see here at State Road Animal Hospital! While Katie and her husband have two boys, they also have a fur child named Wally! Wally was adopted from HATS in Mt. Pleasant where Katie often spends her free time volunteering. She has a deep passion for helping animals in need, and her big heart is just one of the many things we cherish about her! When Katie isn’t spending time with us or volunteering at the humane society, you can find her and her family camping, enjoying warm summer days, and visiting the race track! Her favorite things about State Road are getting to see all the sweet fur babies that come through the door, and working with her team. More importantly, she loves getting to build relationships with pet owners too as we spend time with their furry friends!

Laura and her husband Jon recently moved to Michigan all the way from Georgia! They share 2 daughters together and are originally from South Jersey. When you call and hear a friendly southern voice, you can be certain, that’s Laura! Her favorite part about working at State Road is getting to know our pet parents as well as all of their fur babies! Prior to State Road, Laura has never worked in Veterinary Medicine and was actually a client at State Road!
Since moving to Michigan and coming to State Road with her pet she had always thought, wouldn’t it be fun to work here? Now that dream is a reality and we are so grateful to have had her join our team! Laura has one dog named Linus who was a rescue adopted from Saginaw Care and Rescue. When not at work, she enjoys gardening, reading, and simply enjoying time spent with those she loves.
